On the night of December 22, 1964, a powerful cyclone devastated Dhanushkodi, a narrow strip of land in Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu. As an important commercial centre, the town had a railway station, a customs office, post and telegraphs office, two medical institutions, one railway hospital and several houses, when the cyclone hit the town. Apart from completely destroying the whole town, the Pamban Dhanushkodi Passenger train with 110 passengers and five railway staff was washed away killing all of them. The ghost town still retains some the ruined structures as a grim reminder of the tragedy.
Excellent work sir….but, a small correction in the description….Rameshwaram is not a district and it is a town in Ramanathapuram district. Please correct it….
